Naka-Tribe Feature #7:
Daniel E. Newhouse
What got you started as a home theater enthusiast?
I enjoy having movie theater sound for everything I watch. I started my home theater journey back in 1985. I bought my first system when I was in the United States Air Force. I have upgraded many times over the years and the Dragon is the best system I have ever owned.
How did you start on your Nakamichi journey?
I saw many Youtube videos from people I trust in audio advice, saying they saw the Dragon at the CES show and how good it sounded. I had been waiting for the right time to upgrade to Dolby Atmos and I knew this was the system for me.
Why did you decide on DRAGON, out of the many other audio systems available on the market?
The Dragon gave me everything I wanted. My biggest concern with Dolby Atmos was having to put speakers in my ceiling as we are planning on moving in a few years. The Dragon allows me to have incredible Dolby Atmos without having to put speakers in the ceiling and it's very easily portable to our new home once we eventually move.
What are some of the ways in which your home theater experience has changed since your upgrade to DRAGON, as compared to your previous system?
It is so easy to switch between different sound formats.
Plus I am a very avid Sim Racing player and the Dragon is absolutely amazing as you can hear everything the car I am racing does. From the engine roar to the tires starting to squeal as I corner hard.
It's amazing how well you can hear everything.
Describe the bass experience from DRAGON's quad subwoofers, in terms of depth, power and tightness.
The bass on the Dragon is wonderful. It's so adjustable if you can adjust it on the fly. Plus with my Sim racing it provides so much incredible detail to the cars' engine noise…heavenly. I like the fact that you can adjust anywhere from 1 to 4 subwoofers.
Tell us how the sense of height and spaciousness has improved with DRAGON, when listening to overhead effects.
The Dragon makes Atmos sound spectacular.
If you are watching a movie where it is raining you would swear it's really raining on you. The Dragon has some of the best sound effects I have personally heard and I am proud to own it. Everyone I show it to smiles in amazement.
What do you think of the overall experience brought about by DRAGON, when it comes to realism, directionality and clarity of surround effects?
I think the Dragon has some of the best surround sound and Atmos sound I have ever heard from any system.
I came from a 7.1 Denon system and the Dragon is way better as an entire system in my opinion. When I am racing in my Sim Rig I can even hear the cars coming from behind me.
Describe the overall music playback experience with DRAGON. Which is your favorite mode for music listening and why?
Music sounds really good on the Dragon. The bass and treble are so well balanced.
Many times it sounds like I am actually at a live concert instead of being in my living room. The bass is amazing and really complements what the artist intended the music to sound like.
Anything else you would like to share regarding your Nakamichi journey?
This is the best sounding system I have ever owned and I am so glad Nakamichi took the time to develop and make this system… it's amazing.
