Naka-Tribe Feature #4:

Thang Vu

What got you started as a home theater enthusiast?

Ever since I was a kid I have always loved the wow factor of going to the movies so I wanted to recreate that at home. I don't even watch movies without a proper home theater setup, it's just not the same. I have had many systems over the years, 2 channel stereo, 4.1, 5.1, 7.1, and 5.2.4.

How did you start on your Nakamichi journey?

My first time hearing about Nakamichi was when I was looking for a soundbar to replace my bulky 7.1 system. I almost bought the first version of the Nakamichi Shockwafe, but had to talk myself out of it because I was afraid that it would not even come close to my 7.1 system in terms of power.

Why did you decide on DRAGON, out of the many other audio systems available on the market?

For the last few years, I have been looking for a soundbar system that can replace my 5.1.2 system.

I wanted a system that had to have build quality, a high number of channels, wireless and powerful. Dragon delivers on all of my demands. I needed something that wouldn't make me miss my AVR and bulky speakers. So far Dragon has done its job.

What are some of the ways in which your home theater experience has changed since your upgrade to DRAGON, as compared to your previous system?

My experience with Dragon in the last few months...

The preset EQs are very easy and the remote control is fantastic with all of the settings easily accessible.

I love that I do not have to go through a bunch of menu options to pick the setting for my content. Dragon has minimal bloatware and I love that.

Describe the bass experience from DRAGON's quad subwoofers, in terms of depth, power and tightness.

The bass on Dragon is very responsive.

The subs hit hard, but at the same time they're tight. I don't hear any distortion or rattle.

I do crave a bit of low grunt, but the bass is good enough for most music. The subs work better for movies than it does with music but I'm good with that.

Tell us how the sense of height and spaciousness has improved with DRAGON, when listening to overhead effects.

The height effects of the Dragon are great. I could really hear the effects.

The EQ settings from Nakamichi work very well. I do have high ceilings in my current setup but at the same time I can still hear the height effects. I feel that it can be improved a bit to be more precise.

What do you think of the overall experience brought about by DRAGON, when it comes to realism, directionality and clarity of surround effects?

The overall experience of Dragon is a good one. The sound effects are amazing even on shows. The direction works well with my current setup. I have an open floor plan so I do lose some directional effects, but it is still very realistic.

Clarity of the Dragon is always spot on.

Describe the overall music playback experience with DRAGON. Which is your favorite mode for music listening and why?

My favorite setting for Dragon is All Channel Stereo, because I'm usually walking around and not sitting right in front of the TV when I'm listening to music so the All Channel Surround works better for me because the sound travels further. For parties this is my favorite setting. If I want to zone out to music then I would prefer the two channel stereo and the EQ to DSP off.

Anything else you would like to share regarding your Nakamichi journey?

I really love the product. I would hope that Nakamichi will continually update the system to fully unlock all of its capabilities. Thank you so much.
