Naka-Tribe Feature #8:

Patrick Murphy

What got you started as a home theater enthusiast?

I work in television as an editor, and I wanted the ability to watch and hear my work on as nice a system as possible. As I started to have the means to afford higher-end equipment, I learned more about the different options. When DRAGON came along, it was a no-brainer.

How did you start on your Nakamichi journey?

I purchased a Shockwafe 7.1 in 2018 and liked the quality. In 2019, I upgraded to the 9.2 DTS:X and was very happy with that. It became clear that I was a Nakamichi fan, so when the DRAGON came along, it felt like the obvious next step in my relationship with the company.

Why did you decide on DRAGON, out of the many other audio systems available on the market?

Having been a long-time fan of Nakamichi, when the DRAGON was announced, I knew that I would be one of the first people to purchase it.

Because it is such an easy system to set up without many wires to have to hide like other systems, the choice was easy. Also, there is no other soundbar on the market that comes close to what DRAGON can do.

What are some of the ways in which your home theater experience has changed since your upgrade to DRAGON, as compared to your previous system?

When my friends come over to watch a movie, every time they mention the quality of the sound. It is something that happens 100% of the time.

I find myself going to the theater less because I can get that experience at home now. It truly is a theater-like experience with DRAGON.

Describe the bass experience from DRAGON's quad subwoofers, in terms of depth, power and tightness.

You feel the bass in your chest.

There have been times when I've had to turn down the bass for fear that I may ruin the china cabinet in the room where the DRAGON is. It is that powerful.

The dual subs make the whole experience even more immersive.

Tell us how the sense of height and spaciousness has improved with DRAGON, when listening to overhead effects.

Overhead effects are spectacular. I find this to be the case especially with atmospheric effects...Rain, wind, things like that are especially immersive. Also, action scenes sound spectacular. The sense of immersion is amazing. This is probably my favorite aspect of DRAGON.

What do you think of the overall experience brought about by DRAGON, when it comes to realism, directionality and clarity of surround effects?

I am still blown away by DRAGON when watching certain movies and shows.

There is an immersive bubble that it creates. When a plane flies overhead, the fact that you can hear it travel from one side of the room to the other is quite amazing.

And the clarity is unrivaled to any other system I have owned.

Describe the overall music playback experience with DRAGON. Which is your favorite mode for music listening and why?

Dark Side of the Moon is an album that I put on to showcase the music experience. And every time my friends are in awe of DRAGON.

There is a separation to the instruments and sounds that I've never heard before.

I have not explored the different music modes yet, but I also love the Bluetooth functionality. It's great when having a dinner party, to have music playing in the background through my phone.

Anything else you would like to share regarding your Nakamichi journey?

Thank you for this system. It has been a game-changer.
