Naka-Tribe Feature #2:
Jeffrey Vance
What got you started as a home theater enthusiast?
The need for a top of the line audio system at home that was not complex.
I value high quality audio, but a complex AVR system would not work well in my space. Top of the line quality audio and simplicity to make ease of use for all people drew me to Nakamichi.
How did you start on your Nakamichi journey?
I started my journey two systems ago with the top-of-the-line Soundwafe system. At the time I was looking for a sound system. I had gone through a couple of low to midrange systems and overall was very disappointed. I began watching reviews and Nakamichi systems popped up on some of the best sound bar systems. I think at the time and also with the Dragon, Nakamichi systems are hard to get and thus they don't always show on different reviews for soundbars.
Why did you decide on DRAGON, out of the many other audio systems available on the market?
The Dragon appealed to me as I was already in the Nakamichi family.
The Dragon on its own moved the needle directly toward and past AVR systems. In this instance, this was a step up in what I already had with a company I trust. The Dragon pushing into basically every area possible for at home sound make me feel as though I am not missing anything. Other systems were good, but some had either glaring omissions or were with a brand I had quality issues with in the past.
What are some of the ways in which your home theater experience has changed since your upgrade to DRAGON, as compared to your previous system?
The first and most noticeable difference is I think from the AMTs.
The audio is tremendously clear at any volume. I think the overall loudness of the Dragon surpassess my previous systems, but it is the clarity that stands out.
I have also added a few items to the tv/audio setup.
Describe the bass experience from DRAGON's quad subwoofers, in terms of depth, power and tightness.
When content is programmed correctly and the sound is at a decent level, the bass will shake the house. My neighbors at times ask me what is going on. The bass is very tight, powerful and provides a deeper bass sound than the previous system.
Also the ability to configure the bass adds to the overall job the Dragon does pushing into high end AVR territory.
Tell us how the sense of height and spaciousness has improved with DRAGON, when listening to overhead effects.
The Dragon has tighter and much more easily discernible height effects. The ability to direct the speaker/height is great in relation to seating. In the room where the Dragon is, the ceilings are thankfully one flat surface. On my previous unit, the height effects were not nearly as clear.
What do you think of the overall experience brought about by DRAGON, when it comes to realism, directionality and clarity of surround effects?
Overall the Dragon blew me out of the water. It is hard to quantify the clarity and 3D sound bubble the Dragon creates. It can be best described as room filling, sharp and as detailed as you can get.
Though you can target the height effect speakers, the dome of sound that is created does not seem to need any specific tweaking unless you are looking for a specific sound in a specific location.
Describe the overall music playback experience with DRAGON. Which is your favorite mode for music listening and why?
Music is like all other audio inputs. The audio is upped a bunch over levels given the quality of the Dragons output. As with everything else, there is a decent amount of configuration that can be done to tweak the audio to your liking. Music on the Dragon is a strong part of the product. On the last system, I would say the music playback was a low point for the system.
Anything else you would like to share regarding your Nakamichi journey?
I would like to thank you for creating such an amazing system.
The Dragon far exceeds my expectations and I know it has space to go further into the pro AVR territory given the reviews I have watched. Over the years, I have enjoyed my Nakamichi products and the Dragon is an amazing evolution of the product line.
